This statement applies to the official website of the Pembroke Local Council and was updated in January 2022.

Compliance status

The Pembroke Local Council is committed to making its online services accessible to all. We are dedicated to continuously improving the accessibility of our services. We do this by adapting best practices as communicated by stakeholders, such as FITA and users.

Compliance process

Our website is designed to work with the latest web browsers such as Edge, Safari, Firefox and Chrome browsers.

As part of this effort, we adhere to accessibility standard EN310549 and WCAG2.1 guidelines. Our online resources and forms are evaluated both manually and programmaticly for compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines. Our website is designed to work well and be accessible when accessed with appropriately updated hardware and software products.

While we also recognise that adherence to standards and guidelines, alone cannot ensure that a product is accessible, we also carry out usability assessments in collaboration with users, in order to gather the necessary feedback. We also work to implement accessibility to information channels that are provided through other platforms wherever possible, such as social media.

Accessibility measures

Our website does not rely on font widgets, magnin and color modification. This is because these functionalities are already integrated with most web browsers or are available through different add-ons and plugins that different users are free to customize for their needs. As a result, these arbitrary user personalizations are available to most websites, not just that of our Local Council. In order to allow this level of adaptation, we seek to maximise compatibility with these user modifications.

As part of and in addition to the above-mentioned guidelines, our website implements the following accessibility features:

  • Maintain a consistent HTML heading hierarchy and information sharing on different webpages.
  • The content of the information is organised into HTML lists wherever applicable.
  • Mouse Pointer changes the icon when a link is placed on browser functionality.
  • Add image title, alt label and caption wherever this information is relevant and useful.
  • Maximize colour contrast to text where applicable.
  • The actual link text is descriptive enough to inform users indicating the link.
  • Implement all external links in order to open it in new browser tabs.

Inaccessible content

We are not aware of specific inaccessible content or accessibility issues on our website. If you identify such content, kindly let us know through the contact details provided below. In such a case, our aim is to investigate the issue with a view to identifying the issue of accessibility and bringing the affected area into line.

Feedback and contact details

Inevitably, we will not always get it right, the more we put services and resources online, the more likely we are to lose some problems, but we remain committed to addressing any access issues promptly. And there we wish your help. If you experience any difficulties accessing our websites or have trouble using any aspect of the website, we would like you to let us know.
